Our Review of Park & Orchard Restaurant - East Rutherford

At first glance this restaurant has a less than stellar impression upon pulling up to the building. But do not let that deter you from walking into their doors where you will find their friendly staff and inviting smells more than make up for their lack of curb appeal. The interior of the building had an artsy feel to it that was somewhat reminiscent of a New York style restaurant.  The restaurant can handle anything from large parties to simple dinners for two.
When we first saw the menu it was immediately brought to our attention that there were gluten free choices we may want to consider, such as Green's Gluten Free Beer and Doc's Hard Cider.  It is a nice statement to their commitment to offering a complete gluten free menu when you see such items available.
Our first taste come in the form of delicious soups that we would definitely recommend to all our readers. That day we were offered the white bean soup and creamy tomato. The tomato soup was by far the superior, though that is no way a knock on the white bean which was also good in its own right. The tomato soup is certainly a can't miss appetizer.
Our sole main disappointment to this restaurant was their "Delicious Dairy and Wheat Free Lasagna."  While the bowl was not aesthetically pleasing, its taste was not all that pleasing either. Polenta was used rather than a typical gluten free pasta. I would be interested to retry this dish with that changed, as I noticed when I picked around the polenta the lasagna was a much more satisfying meal.
The real home run of this experience was the "Tuscan Salmon and Cannelloni Beans."  You cannot go wrong with this as a meal, or even two meals (it was certainly more than a generous portion). It was so good that we actually finished off the leftovers of it as soon as we got back home from the restaurant (an hour and a half drive was more than enough to revive our appetites). If you love salmon, pasta, and tuscan seasoning you can't go wrong with this dish.
We were also given the chance to try an interesting vegetable dish. At first glance it looks like baby food and is something I would avoid if shown before I ordered it. It was rather tasty, though, and a great break from the drab and boring vegetable options usual given at restaurants. To know more about this side dish keep an eye on our recipe pages as Park & Orchard was kind enough to share this recipe with us for all our readers.
All in all, this was a pleasant dinner and we could tell the staff truly did understand how to meet the needs of a gluten free customer. In fact, one of the owners lives the gluten free lifestyle. I would certainly recommend this restaurant if your looking for a classy establishment with great food, great choices, and a great staff. Do keep in mind though that like anything else in life you get what you pay for, and this place is not as cheap as an Outback or similar cookie cutter restaurant. The bill for two eclipsed the $50 mark before tip.
